Welcome !

This site is mostly addressed to HAM Radio operators and dedicated to KENWOOD TL-922 HF power amplifier. It was created in order to share with you how I modified my KENWOOD TL-922A HF Power Amplifier, following recommendations of Mr. Rich Measures, AG6K.

Complete list of mods for KENWOOD TL-922, HEATHKIT SB-220 and number of other excellent articles about HF amplifiers can be found on his personal web site at www.somis.org.

Here you can see pictures of most of the mods, based on his article "QSK for the TL-922 and SB-220 With Circuit Improvements for the TL-922".

I use YAESU FT-1000MP to drive modified TL-922. No problems so far. My reason for taking TL-922 apart in order to modify it was the smell from filament transformer. It definitely was "melting". Well, not anymore. It's very pleasant to use this nice amplifier now. Every time I tune it now, I have this good feeling that it operates as it should from day one.

It took me a couple of weekends to do it all. Those HAMs who plan to modify TL-922 but don't know where to start, should be able to do it a lot quicker using my pictures. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about it.

Here is what I needed to buy before I started (details on www.somis.org):

1. Low VHF-Q parasitic suppressor retrofit kit
2. High-speed switching parts-kit for QSK mod
3. Vacuum Relay KILOVAC HC-1

In addition, you may want ot find these 3 useful manuals. I used this nice search engine below, and in several mouse clicks I has all 3 of them.

1. TL-922 operator's guide
2. TL-922 Service Manual
3. TL-922 QST Review

Let's get started. List of modifications is below, each line is a link to a page with pictures of it.

1. Low VHF-Q supperssors
2. QSK
4. Filament voltage
5. Step-start
6. Cathode circuit
7. Anode and grid circuit
8. Plate capacitor
9. Bandswitch

All mods can be found here: TL-922 MODS PAGE

Good luck!!!

By the way, HAMs who don't own TL-922 and looking for one, check this excellent search engine below,
it may find other sources than E-bay, eHam.net or qth.com. Just type in "TL-922 for sale" and click "Search". Enjoy Amateur Radio !
